    SKATE AND PLAY!

For children that want to skate and visit the Playbarn while at Farrington’s, then select a Child’s Dual Entry Ticket for £8.95.

This entitles your child to Playbarn entry either before or after their skate session*. Adults to not need to purchase a dual ticket, as entry to the Playbarn will be free for adults that have paid to skate.

*Please check Playbarn closing times on the day of your visit. If you are visiting towards the end of the day, please play prior to skating to avoid disappointment. If you are visiting us on a Sunday, please be aware the Playbarn shuts at the earlier time of 4pm.

It’s raining! Can we still go skating? The rink is under the cover of our barn so whether it’s rain or shine, it won’t spoil the skating!

How big is the skating rink? 10m wide by 14m long, or 140 square metres.

What is the skating surface made of? The skating rink is made from synthetic panels, so the floor is not cold or wet! The panels require no plumbing or heating. They are better for the environment and offer a fun and safer skating experience for all ages. You don’t have to worry if the weather is mild as these rinks do not have to be frozen and you won’t get cold!

What clothing should I wear? We recommend wearing warm winter clothing due to the time of year. Even though the skating surface is not cold, we would still recommend gloves to protect hands.

How many people can skate at the same time? To stop it feeling crowded, there is a limit of 48 skaters allowed on the ice at any one time.

Where is the skating rink? The rink is at Farrington’s Farm Shop, Farrington Gurney, just of the A362 (BS39 6UB). We’re approximately 30 minutes from Bristol, Bath and Frome.

When should I arrive and where do I go? Please arrive at Farrington’s at least 15 minutes before your session time. Our skating barn is located just behind the ‘Green Car Park’. You must show your Eventbrite e-ticket or you will not be allowed to skate.

Do you have plenty of car parking? Yes, we have lots of FREE parking.

Do you have the child’s push along Skate Aid? Yes! We do and they will be available to use on the day FREE OF CHARGE. However, this will depend on availability, the number of skaters and whether we have capacity on the rink. Synthetic ice is a more forgiving surface than real ice and younger children soon find their feet.

Is the rink wheelchair accessible? Yes! We have a wheelchair accessible skate chair which is available on request. Please notify us at time of booking. You can also use your own wheelchair on the rink if you prefer.

Do you provide skates for younger children? Skating is dependent upon shoe size and our range of skates start from a child size 10. There are also dual blade skates, which go over the children’s shoes for younger children and toddlers.

How old do children have to be to skate? There is no minimum age but we would say the event is suitable for children aged 3 plus. For safety reasons, all children 8 years and under must be accompanied by an adult on the rink (one adult for every three under 8’s). Children 9+ can skate unaccompanied.

Can I walk with my child on the rink? No. Due to the type of surface we only allow skates on the rink and you will need to buy a ticket as you are taking a place of a skater.

Where can I store my personal belongings while I skate? Lockers are NOT provided and skaters are advised not to bring along items of high value. Items can be left in the skating rink viewing area, with your shoes, but this is ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK. We do not accept any responsibility for any items left unattended anywhere on site.

Can I bring my own skates? Skate hire is included in the ticket price, but we are happy for you to use your own skates on the ice providing you notify one of our skating staff. NO TOE PICKS ALLOWED. Please be aware that there will be no reduction in ticket price should you use your own skates.

Is there anywhere I can just stand and watch from? There will be a viewing area next to the rink.

Can I get something to eat and drink? Yes! Our Farm Shop Café is just next door to the rink and close by is the Playbarn with indoor soft play and café, serving up freshly prepared meals, sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks. We make all our food in our farm kitchens, using fresh, hand-picked ingredients wherever possible.
