FARRINGTON'S

OUR STORY

A farm shop, organic vegetables and much more in Farrington Gurney

Have you met Gert? You can’t miss her. Gert’s the giant cow bursting out of the wall as you enter Farrington’s. She was made by a talented local artist back in 2001 and has been a local landmark and much-loved member of our family ever since.

Farrington’s Farm Shop and Cafe is based at Home Farm, an idyllic 400-acre-rich working farm in the Somerset village of Farrington Gurney - just a short drive from Bristol and Bath. Located on site is also Farrington's Farm Playbarn and Farm Park.

It’s home to Tish and Andy Jeffery. They took over the running of the farm in 1989 and a couple years later opened their first farm shop called Home Farm Farm Shop. This was an exciting project for Tish to get stuck into while bringing up their four children.

And today, you’ll find Tish and Andy working together at Farrington’s on everything from harvesting potatoes to preparing for one of the farm’s events. But if the event involves Christmas? It’s all down to Tish. She’s the one that makes the Christmas Shop look so festive and her knowledge of Christmas tress is outstanding.

Home Farm Farm Shop then became known as Farrington’s Farm Shop, which sells the best homegrown organic vegetables and homemade produce. That’s been our ethos from the start and we’ll always stand by it, but we don’t stop there.

We’re a low food waste farm, which means we’ll find a purpose for just about anything. Whether it’s a homemade soup served in the café made with our best pickings of seasonal vegetables or even grass cuttings used to feed the farm animals.

Did you know?

Farrington’s used to be a working dairy farm ran by Andy’s dad and the Cowtastic Playbarn used to be the milking parlour.

WHAT MAKES OUR VEGETABLES SO SPECIAL?

  • Our vegetables have a great start in life as they’re planted in red sandstone soil. In the farming world, this type of soil is given the highest Grade 1 as its really sandy base makes it ideal for growing all kinds of crops.

  • Our organic produce is also 100% certified organic which means it’s free of synthetic additives like pesticides and chemical fertilisers.

  • Instead, we cover our organic crops with netting which is better for you and the environment. And that’s the way it should be – see how you can get involved in looking after the environment too.

  • Our organic fields are certified by the Soil Association which is the UK’s largest organic certification body.

  • We rotate crops planted each season, preventing disease building up in the soil. It keeps our soils fertile and in good heart so there’s no need for chemicals.

  • Our seasonal vegetables are handpicked from the farm every day and delivered straight to the farm shop. They’re used in the café and in homemade products too.
